My Tails finally in!
#16
I was curious about this as well, but wasn't sure if it was possible. When I attempted this I noticed it will come out fairley easily if I poked at it but would be stuck in the the tail lights just rolling around in there. Does anyone know how it can be done.

I am getting those soon to
Looks great
For a cleaner look get the silver coated signal lights for sure.
You'll find it online, just look up the bulb type, sorry don't remember.
I have them in my front clear signals and its a Helluva difference.

The only way to get rid of the orange is to try to remove or break off the inner cap. It is securely glued and sealed in there. Trying to break it off would cause pieces of plastic to get lodged in the lense, and by the looks of it even if you could break off the cap from the back there would still be pieces of orange plastic glued in housing itself. Trying to bake the lights and and then removing the entire front plastic lense would be FRAUGHT WITH DANGER.
I would DEFINATELY NOT recommend attempting to remove it. The lights are way too expensive to be mucking around with them!
It's annoying I know, but be happy with the new clear look that the updated tails provide anyway!

Using silver coated bulbs on the 2000-2001 ES tails are a complete waste of time because there is a orange plastic cap sealed in the lense that is always visible. (I have just received the outer tail lights and I'm waiting for the inners now)

The plastic on Lexus tails are very thin and crack easily. To do it correctly takes around 2-3 hours and you have to be extremely gentle. Ive successfully opened only one without cracking it into pieces.

i think the second gen tails are put together a little differently... the third gen looks impossible to open up without cracking.. way to scared to risk it

Haha, if you think the third gen tails looks scary to take apart, the second gen tail's plastic parts are bigger length-wise which gives a greater chance of cracking while taking them apart.
I havent posted a DIY yet because im still waiting for one more tail to come in, damn ebay auctions take forever to end: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ES300...spagenameZWDVW
As soon as I get this one and take it apart I will have a DIY up.
And I have to say it took less time(1hr. and 45 mins.) and was easier to do when I used a hair-dryer on high power. Requires the patience of yoda though...
