Question Fuel Filter? ES300 yes, camry no?

Hey guys, I wanted to change the fuel filter of my es300, the one in the engine bay near the air filter box.

I wanted to compare the prices between OEM, and aftermarket.

So for OEM, I contacted the local Lexus dealer and they gave me this information:
Fuel Filter (engine bay), part# 2330020090 is $68.20 + tax

I e-mailed the local Toyota dealer, assuming an 00 v6 xle camry is identical mechanically to the 00 es300 and the guy told me
There is no fuel filter in the engine compartment like there used to be some years ago. The only fuel filter is located in the fuel tank and does not need to be replaced as routine maintenance. Thank you for your inquiry.

Aftermarket from autozone ranged from 18-23 bucks

Now I have two questions

1) If the es300 has it, shouldnt the camry?

2)If i decide to go with aftermarket will it make a difference in MPG or anything else? (Phoenix this one's for you)

Thanks for any input

that dealer doesn't know what they're talking about...

it moved to the tank in 02.

actually 00ES300 is right; i too have consulted the dealership about replacing my fuel filter; there is only one and it is in the fuel tank. went to Crown Lexus in Ontario and i also went to Lexus of Cerritos. both service advisors said the exact same thing and i'm pretty sure they are paid to know what they are talking about.

well he was 99% sure and he was referring to the camry specifically. trust me, there are plenty of idiots at dealer parts counters.

but whatever. no need for hostility...

in the interest of accuracy:

the camry switched to the in-tank fuel filter for the 4th gen (97), not the 5th gen (02) as husband recalled. but there is a reason he doesn't immediately trust parts guys: experience as a tech. (many stories!)

the same is true for the es300 according to the repair manual. it is technically replaceable through a service port under the rear seat. that leftover TIS subscription comes in handy sometimes...

so 00es300, can ya take a picture of what you're referring to in the engine bay?
