Default replacing PCV valve on my ES300

I want to replace the PCV valve on my ES, I think it is due for a change after all the mileage. I picked one up at my local Autozone for $3.00, Do i pull the old one right out of valve cover or is there more work involved. Please let me know.

Thank You,

Erfan

PCV means positive crankcase ventilation, It is a filter that is on your rear valve cover gasket, it is for emmisions purposes and it gets dirty and causes rough idle and poor gas mileage, It is about time for me to change mine out, it has 95K on it. They are extremely inexpensive, but they are the most overlooked piece when you are doing maintanence.

I changed mine recently at 87000 miles. I picked up the one from Autozone. The only problem I found is that the old one was pretty hard to get out. I used some pliers to twist it out. Then the new one was tough to get in. It is just really tight. I got it in but with a struggle.

Luckilu when I did mine, it didn't break anything. BUt with location of the PCV valve, under the air plenum, it has even harder to install the new one.

Default PCV

This is a brief description of a what a PCV does and is.

"The Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve allows air to flow from the crankcase to the intake manifold. Air will not flow in the opposite direction. The resulting negative pressure in the crankcase causes air to be pulled from the air cleaner into the engine via the oil fill cap. Normally these gases in the crankcase would be vented to the air, with this reburning of the gases, hydrocarbon emissions are reduced significantly."

And Erfan there is nothing else to the PCV . Since you have already replaced it you are already done. In the future I would do a complete tune up . Parts for a tune up are cheap and easy to replace. Only hard part is the gas filter.

Semitech,

I have already had the plugs replaced, mine is the direct ignition, no distributor and cap. At what mileage should the PCV valve be replaced?

Steve,

The PCV valve is right on the top of your rear valve cover, it looks like a little black pipe and it is hard plastic and has a tube connected to it.

Here is a diagram showing where the pcv valve is on a 98 ES300. The valve just wiggled out with no trouble at all.
