Wink Dont see this every day..

I swaped out my 220,000 mile, warped head, bad engine, out with this:

i got it from a place called japan direct for $900, it was used and imported from japan, promised to have less than 80,000 miles, for the price... i couldnt beat it..... figured i would show u guys a picture without the engine in the car.... not something u see very often

im only 17 yrs old and did this in my back drive way, with some help from my father, figured that this was a big accomplishment, well at least for a 17 year old...

the bad engine... i tore it apart inside the car.. not fun or easy... found the head to be warped and thought it would be cheaper to just replace the 220,000 mile engine....

mmm, i really need to swap mine for a JDM. Ever since mine overheated last year, it just hasn't felt right.

You wanna PM me any more pictures you have and tips on how you did it?

Good luck with your eng. swap ... I hope you are as happy with your jdm as I was... thats a big job even with help... a couple questions... Are those exaust manifolds your old ones? and did your old engine have a egr? as Im not familiar with NC emission laws...

good job, i wish i had taken pictures when i swap my motor.

$900? wow... i got mines roughly under 600. and its JDM.

i swap my old manifold, becuase of California emission regulation.

and swaping a motor by myself, it was pretty hard. including work, school... lol.

and i hope you changed things like sparks, hard to reach place, regular maintance stuff.

and also, torquing head to manual's specs.

I wasn't aware that jdm motors had o2 sensors... not that that means anything exept I'm not aware... Anyhow like you said it works better than your old engine... Enjoy some extended time with your ES...

of course they have 02 sensors.!

its a sensor that measure your air fuel ratio. and if it runs too rich it tells the ecu to adjust the mixture =0

The eng that I bought had no o2 sensors... At least they weren't on the exaust manifolds... The manifolds had had the o2 boss plugged so I had to swap my old exaust onto the jdm eng... On that application the o2 may have been further down the exaust...

wow pretty good for a 17 year old got a question for replacing engine though.... how long should a lexus es 300 go before changing engine, and how much would a new one cost (preferrably JDM ones ) also what else needs to be changed besides the engine itself?

NC doesn't require emissions testing on 1995 and older vehicles. However, the safety inspection may require that original emissions control devices are installed. I'm not positive on this, but they may require that the EGR system is installed to pass you.
