hey everyone hows it going, i put in some black winter mats into my tan car the other day and it gave me a idea to change everything that is the darker brown in my 2000 interior to a black to give it a nice two-tone bone and black look i think if this will be done right it will look amazing im planning on using vinyl dye, and obviously taking every single piece out of the interior, taping the bone parts off and shooting the darker brown stuff to a jet black, my plan also includes black floor mats a black with woodgrain steering wheel... ect. so does anyone have any experience with this vinyl dye? heres some quick pics i made on paint lemme know which one you like better.. thanks

Awesome idea. I like the look of the third pic. If you can pull it off by yourself, go for it. It is, however, going to be alot more work than you think.
I redid the entire upholstery of my car back in high school, aqua blue (interior paint) and purple (cloth velour). Took the entire inside apart and had a hell of a time putting it back together. Took me 2 days start to finish. Looked amazing when I was done, and had about 10 people willing to pay for me to do their car. I declined. It was that much of a PITA.

While i wish the Es's came in two tone from the factory, the vinyl and leather dies (any dye) used is not as durable and reliable as a factory oem finish. On top of that, inorder to get a strong enough coat to prevent cracking from expansion in the sun, you will need a fairly thick coat, making the texture of the oem dash wavy and flat. If you are keeping the car for a couple years, then i guess you could shove it off to the next buyer, but I would say to leave it oem. I think some things can be over done.. the stick on wood trim, painted vents etc.. they simply wont last and you will find yourself re-painting these parts over and over again. OEm materials are usually solid colored (if you scratch it, the plastic is colored the same). So.....The only way I'd do this project is with real oem black parts![Thumb Up](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
Also, the texture of the materials are pretty much similar, and dyeing it might cause it to be too shiney or flat, or the black could be off color, even if it is black...just something you realize that it was painted on.

the dye will only be on the dash and tops of the door panels, there is no stick on wood only a OEM wood/leather wheel in black, also the leather work will be professionally done. and i will be gettin a set of mats out of the black es300
right now im in the process of getting a old door panel to experiment with

Nice I30. I used to have a black 98 Maxima. Would you say the ES is faster or slower than the I30? I know my ES is way more luxurious and all that, but I do miss the sound and performance of that VQ30DE.
edit: right after I posted that, my friend sent me a link to this Civic on eBay that reminds me of your two tone interior, and you might be able to use it as inspiration....
