Default Gas Gauge?

hey... i am having a small problem but could be a large one.....

my gas guage is below the E mark on the gague and i havent encountered the small box that tells me to get gas yet...

now.. when i put $20 the gague goes all the way up to full... then to half... then when i drive it around for about an hour it finally goes all the way back down to E again...

the car has been sitting for about 2 years and not sure if maybe the sending unit on the gas tank is bad or what...

any tips would be helpful

well since you did the needle fix I have a couple of sugestions first make sure the gas needle does not have the counter weight on it you may have switched with the temp. (note the pic of the back of the needle in the diy it has a copper weight)... second fill your tank to the top then set your needle at the full mark it may take a couple of try's to get it...

And if you find out that you are using the right needle, then you might have offset the weight and might have made the LED side of the needle too heavy. To even it out, try adding solder to the opposite side of the led on the needle.
