Just got my ES, have a few questions.
Whats up everyone, I just bought my 97 ES300. I paid 6400$. The motor has 60k, the transmission has 15k and the body has 123k. The interiors pretty much mint the exterior has some rock chips and what not. The woman gave me receipts for everything. There is a few problems that need to be addressed and I have a few questions.
- My front suspension sounds like floppy or loose when I go over small bumps or cracks in the road. Now that its 20degrees outside its more apparent and annoying as hell. If my struts are shot thats fine, im going to save up and put on some kyb gr2's with some lowering springs.
- I've been getting about 13mpg, or about 220 miles to the tank. My last car got 8mpg (71 monte carlo) so its still an improvement. I am sometimes heavy on the gas, and its mostly all stop and go traffic. But I figure i should get atleast 18 city. Even when im cruising and easy on it that gas milage isnt what it should be. Im going to be doing an oil change to 5w 30 mobile 1, im sure its past due from the last owner. should i use seafoam as well? Looks a little cruddy underneath the oil cap, anybody recommend any motor flush.
- Springtime im going to get the front clip resprayed, do I have to change anything else to use the 01 front bumper?

The noise from bumps is probably the strut mounts, so w/ 123k its probably time for new struts/ mounts and sway bar end links and bushings all around. As far as your gas mileage, your probably due for new o2 sensors and not too sure about the 01 bumper question but im sure someone else will chime in on that but congrats on the car!

I'm not sure why you've been getting bad gas mileage, but just as a reference, my ES has a little over 165K on it as of a day or two ago, and the worst mileage I've got so far was maybe 21, if that, but I usually get around 23.

i have 98 and i barely do 200 miles with full tank.
after i did sea foam i did like 240.
but i heard ppl doin almost 300.
should i change my o2 sensor. how often do you have to change that?

this is true. With the weather being so nice lately i don't really use the a/c that much. And I try to take it easy on this car. Have you tried doing the usual mpg boosting stuff:
-check tire pressure
-go easy on the gas
-don't leave the car running if you don't have to
-get rid of any dead weight you don't need
-check your air filter
-tailgate semi trucks (jk)

The 01 is a direct bolt on or at least thats what vin78 said when he was still here. I got 22 mpg last winter and I remember getting 25 mpg during the summer.Oh and don't forget you need new fog lights if you get the 01 bumper.

I would do it as part of the 90K. 200 is bad, jeez i get 300 beating the crap out of it all around town.
