I have a 93 es300 with 115K. In May the transmission was drained and refilled (not flushed) at the Lexus dealership. Also had rear main valve repaired. All totaled $1300. In August (200 miles later) I experienced stalling when I shifted from D to R (while parking, eg) and also lack of acceleration despite pressing gas pedal and increased rpms.
The dealership spent the day diagnosing and determined there was a leak in some front pump valve, and lo!, told me I needed to spend $4700 to install a refurbished transmission. Just 3 months after the drain/fill.
questions:
- should I go back to Lexus and try to determine if somehow their drain/fill adversely affected the trans? Their receipt says they used Dexron fluid, not specifically Dexron II or III, btw.
- should I sell this car while it still runs?
I put less than 3K on it per year, no kidding. I can almost get by with cabs, my bike, and Zipcar.
Advice? similar experience?

I highly doubt that after a period of three months, despite the low number of miles you've put on the car since, you would be successful in persuading the dealership that the cause of your current problem was their fault, but I guess it never hurts to try.
As far as future servicing is concerned, I'd recommend you look for an independent shop with a Toyota or lexus certified mechanic on staff.....much cheaper than going directly to Lexus for servicing. Even going to a Toyota dealership for servicing rather than a Lexus dealership will save you $$$.
As to Dexron II or III: either is compatible with the 1993 ES300 transmission.

I agree with Lexucan, that it is going to be hard to get the dealership to accept responsibility.
I did some perusing of the 'net yesterday (after reading your post) and a Jasper re-manufactured transmission is available for your '93 es300. (I have the same car, with 107,000+ miles on it!)
The Jasper transmission is a GOOD transmission. (I had one installed on another vehicle and it was virtually bullet-proof!) That re-manufactured transmission now has 200,000+ miles on it.
Their warranty is 3 years / 100,000 miles. The price of the transmission is $2600 and change. You'll then need to have it installed.
The problems with auto transmissions (in my experience) is lack of maintenance, not flushing and refilling at the recommended intervals, 'hot-*******' the car, and overheating.
