Angry Squealing Brakes!

My 97 ES300 has a very annoying habit of the fronts brakes squealing under light brake application. The car has genuine Lexus pads and I just machined the rotors, the noise eased for a couple of days after the machining, but it's now back with a vengance. Does anyone have the same problem, or been able to fix it??

Are you using the shims and the anti-squeal springs?

I would just sand the pads down until they lose their shine. Should get rid of the sound.

Are the brake pads brand new or worn?

If they aren't new, check for wear because the Lexus pads are designed to make a squeeling noise when they are worn to alert the owner that they need changing. True story, it has it listed in the owners service manual!

Just a thought.

Pads aren't new, but have plenty of life left. I might try sanding them. On a quick side note Lex ES300 what size are your tyres again?? Cheers..

Hi Bombsquad,

My tyres are 225/50/17's - I wanted this set up for ride quality first, and the appearance secondary.

I think its a great combination all round for comfort, appearance, and price!

Did you put anti-squeal compound on the back of the pads and shims?

I have always used these materials on brake pad changes and have never had a squeal problem.
