Heat doesnt work when at idle....
Ok, my heat stops working if my car is idling. As soon as i start driving it kicks back on but this is a pain in the *** because my car wont defrost in the morning.
Also if my car sits idle for awhile it starts to over heat, like in the red but the car is actually not over heating. Again as soon as i start driving the Temp goes back down to normal.
Any Ideas? I was thinking thermostat but before i freeze my *** off changing parts i thought i would ask.

When you say it stops working, Are you saying the air blowing out of the vents is no longer hot, but cold? Or does it stop blowing out of the vents completely?
The overheat concern, Are the radiator fans coming on?

The car stops producing heat, blower still pushing air.
As far as i know the fans are running Ill check tonight, aren't the fans on a 97 Lexus driven by transmission fluid with a clutch system?

They should be electric on a 97. This isnt making much sense. The guage says its hot at idle, yet the heater gets cold at idle. Since the heat comes from the coolant, it should be the opposite.... Hmmm.

So the fans are working, I didn't even think of checking Anti-Freeze and to think i have was a mechanic. I'm going to throw a new thermostat in this weekend anyways, car has 160k I'm sure it wouldn't hurt.
