Cool

GR-2s have been described multiple times on the forum as the closest to stock for the 2nd gens (and others). I have them and appreciate them.
If there are some 2nd gen'rs with Bilsteins, they've not posted any reviews that I've found, so I can't relate any data to you there (without making it up).

I use to have Bilsteins on my 92 ES and they were a little stiff, good struts but a little on the sporty side, go with they KYBs they will give a stock ride

Yea the KYBs are very nice. The ride is pretty much like stock and handling seems a little tighter, not by much though. The quality seems to better than the old blown out struts that I replaced and they will probably outlast the car.

thx for the responses!

Ariyanna great that you added something about the billstein since a lot of ppl didnt know!

one more question: did yall do all four or the just the rear?
similarly, was it the same strut that started bleeding [pass rear]?

are the stock ones serviceable or sealed?? it appears there are two options ...

what happens when you keep stock struts and put on 1.5 inch drop lowering springs again?

CL user "Keith" explains this pretty well here.

Stock struts + Aftermarket/Lowered Springs = Quickly Worn &/or Destroyed Stock struts

I replaced all 4. The first one to leak was the left rear, and my 92 does have servicable struts. All of the old mounts were still tight but i went ahead and replaced those, the boots and the bump stops. It was money well spent, shoulda done it sooner!

I have to replace my front struts very soon (due to old age/wear). If you're like me and just looking for comfort and not high performance racing then I would say stick with the genuine parts. Where I'm from in Australia the struts are at least double if not triple the price compared to in the USA but i'm still going to get them. In the past when I owned other cars I changed the struts over to aftermarket ones thinking they would be better - big mistake for me - however i guess it all depends on what you are looking for and what you buy. In my opinion Lexus are well known for a smooth comfortable ride and they have high quality struts to match.

If you're worried about the cost why not try some online genuine OEM Lexus and Toyota parts stores. I have ordered quite a few parts and had them shipped to me - even overseas at a fraction of the cost of going to a dealer - I would even get my new struts online from the USA but they won't ship those particular parts overseas.

Give it a go and checkout some online stores first

online, the equivalent aftermarket is 80 while the lexus is 160. both are the cheapest of the online retailers.

see, I dont have a lot of money, so I have to go by the advice given that the kyb are great replacements [for this car].

another thing, is there a quick and easy thing to look for to determine if its the serviceable vs nonserviceable?
