Hey everyone.. what's going on?
My name's Rich from New Jersey and I have a 2001 Lexus ES300.
I just brought my Lexus to the dealership so I could get some insight with some diagnostic work because I'm having some issues and they can't seem to figure it out so wanted to know if anyone here knows the answers
First problem:
My instrument panel dims while i'm driving.. doesn't matter between high speeds, low speeds, heat on, heat off .. it just randomly dims. They checked my battery and alternator, and no problems as of yet. They stated something in the ball park of that "it could be that the energy from my car is being directed towards driving instead of just the instrument panel" which i thought was a weird explanation.
Second Problem:
Sometimes when I start my car, it idles very low, literally centimeters above the 0 RPM mark. Obviously that's some sort of an issue and kind of weird. It usually happens when it's cold, I have less than half a tank of gas, it's getting close to my oil change and most of the time, after i've turned off my car once and go back about an hour or so later.. sometimes longer.
I've had a friend suggest that it could be fuel pump issue and Lexus thinks it could be an idle air control. But here's the second part of the issue.
After I put my car in reverse to back out of a parking spot (for example), it slowly goes up and after i press the acceleration, the RPM jumps above the 1 marker. When this first started, it did not do that. Actually sometimes, the car would completely shut off and I would have to restart it and sometimes the problem would happen again soon afterwards.
Sooooooo.... what does everyone think?
Thanks for all the help and hope you're having a great weekend!

Hey there Rich, welcome to Club Lexus. I'd attempt to answer your questions but I'm not too savvy when it comes to the ES300.
I say give this thread some time and eventually, some of the more knowledgeable people will chime in

Welcome to CL it sounds like with your RPM's Lexus may be right. It also could be your EGR as well. About your lights dimming see if you can hook up a voltmeter to your cig. lighter to see what you are outputing to help diagnose the problem.
