Default 2nd Gen ES brake question

During the winter months I drive my wifes ES ALOT, and recently I noticed an inconsistant problem with the brakes. It seems that at times I need to push the pedal to the floor before I can get the brakes to engage, but as soon as I leave off and hit them again they are fine. I did alot of searching and found some in the past that hinted that it could be the master cylinder, but there were never any follow ups. My (well trusted) mechanic has looked at it twice and feels that everything is working as it should. Anyone run into this before or have any thoughts? Again it doesn't do this all the time, just once in a while.

It might also be the brake booster.

air in the system faulty master or leaky calipers... one would think a well trusted mechanic would be alarmed at the pedal going to the floor on the first pump... time to re assess your trust in said mechanic...

I never said that he wasn't alarmed, just that he has tested all of the brake components and that everything is working as it is supposed to. That's what has me curious to see if anyone else has run into this.

Just thought I would update everyone, in the instance that others experience this. It ended up being the master cylinder. Brakes are back to normal
