"supposely" toyota doesn't make gasket for it "anymore" so therefore silcone is another mean of resources.

but i would recommend gasket, you can find one at your local auto zone store.

i tried using OEM toyota silcone two times!!!! so that means taking off and on and cleaning all the gooey glue and make sure everything is perfect and still had a leak.

so i went and got a gasket and theres no leak ... been a year already.

hope my short story help.

gasket all the way =0

Yeah definitely. I hate silicone it always leaks. Im afraid ill have the same problem.

Swifty what brand of gasket did you use and did you do anything with the oil level sensor? It looks like that is leaking too.

tips for a good fipg seal:
1. clean block surface thoroughly without screwing up the surface
2. clean oil pan edge thoroughly without screwing up surface
3. ensure ALL OLD GASKET MATERIAL IS GONE
4. ensure NO OIL has run down and gotten on the block surface
5. apply even seal and carefully reinstall

with great care, fipg makes great seals but it will not work if done improperly.

Silicone gaskets take 24 hours to cure, which means no oil can be added before that time. Aftewards, it will not leak and will be fine, otherwise, it will definitely leak.

yeah it's best to let fipg set a couple hours before adding the oil back in. you can refill it right away but it's best to wait a little bit. silicone takes *much* more time.

no leaks on our 2vz, thanks to the gasket master.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think im gonna just use a gasket though. Plus I cant really wait for it to dry because more than likely ill be tying up a bay on my day off. I guess another importtant step would be to flatten out the flange of the oil pan if its distorted since ive been routinely "snugging up" the bolts pretty much every oil change to slow down the leak a little. It worked for a while but its time for a new gasket.

I use the RTV high temp red gasket maker, and it's only a 20 minute cure. I guess it's ok.
