Rims And Dropping?!?
HEY! So I want to get some rims that are not too expensive or too cheap? Any Suggestions on rims+tires on where to find? Also if I plan to drop my es, how low should I drop it so it's not too low, but low enough that people know I dropped it..

You may want to look at Intrax, H&R or Eibach for lowering springs from a 94-96 Camry V6 model. Intrax and H&R drop lower than the Eibachs.

an inch should be fine
I say an inch is fine cuz anything lower than that...you'd do some serious scraping. if you're a performance freak then go lower...i notice my ES sways a lot when i am coming out of moderately sharp turns. lowering springs should help but oh well. as for wheels, remember to recalibrate your speedometer if your new tires are much bigger than the stock 205/65/15!! good luck

In my opinion, with 17 or 18 inch wheels/tires, you would need to drop your car atleast 2-3 inches for it to look right, and to appear really dropped to onlookers. I don't think one inch is even worth the effort, and you sure won't be doing any "serious scraping". (no offense meZoom) Also, if you get the right wheel offset, you shouldn't encounter any "scrubbing" in the fender wells either. However, I do know that the availabilty of drop coils for the ES are limited to about 1-2 inches of drop. So, if that inch or so is all you can find and that suits you, go for it. But I like 'em really low! Later.

I would say drop it from 1-2 inches. Eibach makes good springs. For rims, I would say either 17 or 18. If you are concerned with price, there is a huge jump in price from 17 to 18, and go with chrome, anything else wouldnt look right on a luxury car

You don't have to go with chrome, it really depends on the wheel design. Keep in mind that chrome also adds weight (unsprung weight is bad for handling) and requires more care to maintain. Also, the speedo will not be affected too much, don't worry about that. The reduced sidewall of the new tire will compensate for the enlargement in wheel diameter. It may be a few mph off, but nothing major, besides, your car's speedo is most likely not perfect as-is anyway. If you drop the car, you are limiting suspension travel and effectiveness. I would reccomend getting some suspension mods to better integrate the suspension components with the new wheels. Stiffer shocks or sway bars would probably help.

personally I do not like wheels so big that the tire sidewall is less than 40. i mean, they look nice but out in l.a. you are just a cracked rim waiting to happen. just today on my way to school i stepped over a ladder, bucket, and three potholes. does anyone know if 19's on an ES will rub when cornering or taking dips??

I agree. Bent wheels car very costly to fix. Big wheels/tires is definately not my first choice for a daily driver. I'd use them just for cruising, in which case they would make a bad investment, lol.
