1997 ES pulley bearings
I believe the bearings in the alternator pulley are shot as a new belt did not solve my noise problems. Sound comes from the alt. about 3k rpm's and up, generally gets a little better as the car warms. The charging system seems fine. Anyone encounter this? I searched but found nothin. Where to get the parts? Oh and all the other pulleys appear fine with no play and the a/c compressor seems fine.

Yeah i've been through that for a while now, tried all sorts of different tension, It's right where it should be about a half inch of play between the crank and the alt. I'm pretty sure it's the bearings in the alt. pulley but I know nothing about it and no repair manuals seem to cover it. I'd buy a new alt. but from what I hear the pulley usually is reused, plus it's charging fine.

no bearings available for alternator that I've found by application, but if you dissasemble the alternator and take the bearings to a major part store they should be able to match them by dimension or cross refrence the number on the bearing... That is what I was going to do but brushes were worn out so I just purchased a rebuilt

How do you know you dont have a timing pulley issue? What I mean is does the noise go away when you run the engine with the accessory drive belts removed? Overtightening belts can put a lot of stress on pulleys too, and the bearings might make noise later on. I see in you signature your ES had 82K. I would replace the tensioner and idler pulleys when you do the t-belt as a preventative measure.
