Default Change wood steering wheel in my1998 ES300

Hello all, I purchased a factory wood wheel from a 1999 ES300, it's even the right color (lucky me) and my old airbag should fit onto this wheel, I hope? I want to install it into my 1998 ES300. I will disconnect the battery before disconnecting and removing the airbag. I am worried about triggering warning lights when I reconnect the battery after installation of the 99 wheel. I also cannot find the airbag fuse? Any helpful hints for me with this install. Thanks

Just make sure your battery is disconnected and wait about 45 minutes for the airbag to discharge its self before you start working

Sorry, didn't mean to leave you hanging on that thread Choas. I bought the fake plastic wood trim and it is not a perfect match to either the radio/AC trim or the console/door switch trim. I believe the site I referenced there also sells real wood trim but I didn't look into it due to cost. My trim kit is very close in color but not grain detail, and is close enough it doesn't bother me.

A couple of helpful hints:

1. Prior to disconecting the airbag, you should align the wheels straight.
2. Make sure have the steering wheel puller from Autozone or do this swap in their parking lot - its a free rental.
3. After you disconect the airbag- DO NOT EVER put the key in the ignition - for the reason that if the airbag is disconected, the key will activate the onboard computer and recognize an airbag error. Now your screwed - have to either reset (pain in the ***) or take to lexus ($80ish bucks). only put the key in the ignition after 1min of reconnecting the neg terminal.
Hope this helps.

...the wood steering wheel mod is a really nice add on, it makes the ES feel more LS'ish.

There is currently a 2001 ES wood steering wheel w/ black trim on Ebay. Current bid is in the $50 range, and 4 days left in the auction. Better get to it fast for a bargain!

Thank you for the welcome message! I am a little nervous about this. I have read that you can trigger lights and all kinds of stuff but i will try. I am curious about the instructions you gave me. You said "Rotate the center to the left until it is tight. Then move it 2 turns to the right and line up the 2 red arrows." Is this the clockspring I have read about? If I am not removing it what is the purpose of adjusting it? I am obviously missing something here. Please help this novice out....thanks, what a great forum!

I did this mod last month and it doesn't take very long at all. Just follow the diy and you will be fine. It's a simple 15 minute mod; no need to be nervous

Where do I find the DIY section mentioned in the quote above? Don't see anything labeled DIY.

Thank you.
