AC problem need help
I have a 99 es 300 with a perfect AC, well at least up til yesterday, I turned it on yesterday and the AC light was flashing, and the air was not cold. I turned the button on and off and started getting a squeeking belt under the hood when it was on, this never happened before , just wanted to know if anyone else had any similar problem. Thanks in advance.
Juct ran AC self test and have a trouble code 21--Solar sensor

well it looks like the compressor froze up. when I turn it on the belt starts to smoke so we shut it down immediately, the repair shop quoted me $1400. Is there any DIY information available? It looks like I need a new compressor, is this as simple as swithing it out and having it refilled? is there anything else I should know besides whats in the repair manual? I ve performed surgery on my car before just not AC systems.

ynvme,
Click on the following link for the factory service manual (FSM). There is no FSM for a 1999 ES300, but the FSM for the 2001 ES300 should be pretty close to what you're looking for. The FSMs are free to download, no registration needed.

if the compressor is bad, and you have no tools to start with, you can fix it yourself, will cost you no more than 500 dollars. if you can somehow rent or borrow the stuff, then cost will be more like 150 to 200 dollars. ive been there done that. if you were around here, i would do it for you
