Just a note... most alternator-whine sounds are almost always caused by ground loop issues, and that's a separate issue entirely from your audio signal path. You can try a ground loop isolator. It's the cheapest approach but may (probably) not get the job done. The best way (IMO) but also most complex is to find out which audio component is introducing the ground loop noise. Here's a good article on that (http://www.termpro.com/articles/noise.html). When you find the component, you'll want to move its grounding point as close to the grounding point for your head unit as you can and use the shortest ground wire you can.
