I have seen some mention of this problem in other forums, but I wanted to ask again anyway. When I cold start my car, it sits around 1500 rpm's until it warms up. I was told that there is cold air sensor that is responsible for controlling the rpm's (It was hooked up to an OBD, and that is what the computer "told" it). Is there truth to this and how do I: a.) locate it b.) replace it c.) where can I buy it (other than from Lexus, if possible). Thanks for the help!!

wow don't mess with this; this is the completely normal procedure for your car to use to start and run on startup, and when cold... heck, should be reving even higher than 1,500RPM technically. Mine goes to 2,000 RPM, unless its verty cold out, then it only hits around 1500 initially then speeds up slowly to 2000! ![Smilie](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

It sounds like its doing what its supposed to. It makes my head spin to see how many times this has been brought up. If youre idle speed is not 750 RPM auto or 700 RPM manual at operating temperature then yea fix it. But 2000 RPM on a cold start is NORMAL!!!
The end.
The end.

Thanks for the tips. I have never had a car that revved so high after a startup, so it's a little new to me. I'm not going fix what isn't broken, so thanks once again.

..ours does that also..not quite 1500 rpm..so what I do is put one foot on the brake and put it in drive, and sit for a min...brings the idle down and only takes about a min to start the idle down sensor...

by taking your car out of park and putting it in drive its gunna take longer for ur engine to heat up than it would if u jus left it in park and let the rpms stay up. that is designed to do that so ur engine warms faster. so again LET YOUR CAR WARM UP IN PARK WITH THE RPMS HIGHER THAN NORMAL. ITS SUPPOSED TO DO THAT. i dunno how to explain it any more clearly than that. and i live in PA, its currently 12 degrees outside w/ 8ins of snow
