Default Knock sensor on a '93 ES300??

Any clue as to where the knock sensor is located on a '93 ES300 and is it easy to replace?

Default Knock sensor

Thanks for the info. My only real question is, does the check engine light have to be on to necessitate replacing the knock sensors?? I'm just really trying to figure why my car is randomly slow on takeoffs sometimes. You can hear the motor like the rev's are picking up but tach doesn't hardly cross 2k RPM's. I am kind of clueless at this point and I don't want to have to shell out a whole bunch of dough trying to figure out the problem(s). Thanks for the great info. once again regarding the location of the knock sensors.

If it is a knock sensor causing your problem, you should be getting a 52 or 55 CEL code. If not, then probably something else is at play.

Default Knock sensor

Thanks Lexucan. I didn't think they would be a problem without a check engine warning. I'm starting to lean towards the MAF, but it seems like I would be getting a warning light on it too. I'll figure it out sooner or later.

there are definete things to check for those symtoms. its not a total mystery yet.
what have you checked so far?

i would investigate the fuel pump or things related to fuel delivery,
the exhaust for a leak,
the intake sensors / intake leak,
02 sensors,
egr valve/egr system function,
tps

The only thing about most those symptoms you list is that most of them would set off the check engine light and I'm not getting that. I will check for the leaks though. I'm not leaking any fuel or other fluids but I'm thinking that it's a air/intake issue. I'm still pigeon holing the problem, so wish me luck.

the check engine light is illuminated by the ecu. the ecu follows its programming. this programing is not infallible. it can both store a dummy code, and fail to store a code, for problems. dont only rely on the ecu. even you should realize this since you're having problem, and the ecu hasn't revealed to you anything

still check those things i mentioned, they are classic reasons [and they DO NOT always trigger a CEL].

i would add once you do, also check: compression/ diagnose valves, ignition timing, spark plugs.

Thanks for tips. I figured as much about the ECU. I know that some things are not going to register with it sometimes (my '95 Talon did the same thing). I will check some of the other things. I know the plugs aren't the issue. I just changed the plugs and wires a couple of weeks ago (as well as changed the air filter, changed the oil, tranny fluid, etc). It helped some, but it did not completely cure it. I'm going through the whole process of elimination thing. I am going to take to my mechanic at the end of the month to check the compression and such (I don't have the necessary equipment). I am going to take the MAF out this weekend and use the cleaner to clean the sensor and see if that helps. Thanks once again.
