Default '96 ES Front Speaker Placement for 2-Way Component System

I’ve looked at the wiring diagram, and see the front speaker setup is a 3-way design (woofer in the door, “squawker” in the dash, tweets on top of the door). The typical aftermarket component system is a 2-way, which begs the question as to where is the optimum placement for the component tweeter. I see 3 options,
(1) in the dash, where the squawker is,
(2) in the spot where the tweeter is now,
(3) in the lower door near the woofer, and aimed upwards towards the top
of the cabin. Obviously each place has its plusses and minuses.

I am interested to hear where others here have placed the tweeter, and what your experiences are as to where you found the best placement was. Thanks!

The only reason I'd replace the tweeter is if I had a high powered speaker set up. But the speakers I have are 2 way and the tweeter is built on to the speaker, so I don't need to worry (now my setup is a 4 way). But if you are getting a high powered speaker, I suggest to replace it where the old tweeters are.

Yep, I am considering an entire system replacement. If I do this, I'll replace all speakers w/ audiophile quality replacements. A 2-way component system for the front, with the tweets located in one of the 3 spots mentioned. As there are always speaker placement compromises in car audio, picking placement is a trial/error approach. 3000, so it sounds like you have two 2-way systems in the front (your Alpine 2-way in the lower door, the stock squawk/tweet in the dash/upper door)? Interesting. I'm interested to hear what others have liked, as far as their speaker placements of your mid/high range speakers in the front.

Yea, I meant two 2 way speakers in the front. The door speakers blew so I changed it out. I left the back because it sounded good with the Alpine deck.... And I was lazy to change them . As far as the squawkers, it would probably take lots of time to get to them, so I left them alone. As for the door speakers, I had to modify the bracket so I could mount the Alpine speaker to it because the stock one has 3 mounting points in a triangle pattern while most aftermarket speakers have a square pattern.

I was just browsing the ES forums and came across this and wanted to share my suggestions ... When I had my '94 ES I completely redid the system, I had Infinity Kappa 63.7i 6.5" 3-way speakers in the front doors with Kicker KS-13 tweeters replacing the stock ones and Kicker KS-20 tweeters replacing the "squawkers", MB Quart Reference RCE269 6x9" component speakers with crossovers in the rear deck, Alpine CDA-9851 HU and Infinity Reference 7541a 4-ch. amp to supply the juice lol ... With this setup i didn't have too much bass but it was EXTREMELY clear and LOUD ... I was also planning on adding subs until i blew the engine ... Hopefully this helps some of you guys out
