Default Holy crap! Spinout at 80 mph

Well,

Husband was driving the lexus on a highway at about 80 on our way back from visiting family, speed limit was 70. There was a fair amount of traffic...and all of a sudden we see an entire semi's tire in our lane (sidewall and everything.) We were in the far left lane, went off onto the lip to try and avoid it (it was in the right of the lane).

As soon as we hit the lip next to the railing, we spun 180 degrees to face oncoming traffic. Husband hit the brakes to swing us forward facing and we made it onto the grass on the other side.

We can't believe we:

1. Were not killed by another car hitting us
2. Didn't knock out the rear end of the car by hitting the railing and/or flip.
2. Can't seem to find anything wrong with the car...tire burning when it happened...but not a scratch on all three of us. I'm amazed. Having it looked at today...It would be too weird if nothing was wrong after that much pressure on the car.

Just wanted to tell you guys this....I think the car did an amazing job at saving our lives...I'm certainly surprised I'm not dead or in an ICU unit...thanks to the Lexus' handling.

Thumbs up

Glad nothing serious happened as a result of the spin out. +1 for Lexus handling.

the car being great would have not spun out

its good to hear your still posting here! I recommended the following asap:

get your suspension checked, it may be worn out

get your tires balanced

call the state authority to make sure the road is cleared

I called the Lexus place I use...haven't gotten a call back from them...so I'm going to take it somewhere else (maybe even the dealer) to have the suspension/brakes/etc. checked out.

I called Florida Highway Patrol as soon as we calmed down so they could remove the tire.

I definitely thank my husband for getting us out of there....he hit the brakes when we went into oncoming traffic, which spun us back around in the right direction. Thank God!

Thanks all for your kind thoughts.

I took it to another place in town.....what jerks! The car is fine, though. No suspension, brake, etc. problems. Not even out of alignment...can't believe it. =D Only damage is roughing up the right side tires...which is the side we spun out on.
