Default Timing belt maintenance record

I was looking through some previous posts when I came across a post regarding timing belt replacement. I was not aware that there is a spot that the mechanic can write the last time the belt was changed and odometer reading.

I decided to look under the hood and found the sticker and it read:

Date replaced: 5/4 <----no year
Odometer reading: 123,000 miles

My odometer when I bought her was 105,900 miles. My wife is freaking out telling me that odometer tampering is illegal and blah blah blah but I told her to calm down and not jump to any conclusions just yet. I told her that it could possibly be a shroud that was probably replaced and the sticker was not removed or maybe that's when the belt is due for a replacement but even I didn't believe what I was telling her. I was merely telling her this to calm her down.

I can take pics later showing the odometer and the sticker but in the meantime I wanted to hear what CL's thoughts about this. Should I be worried? Thanks in advance for any input and suggestions.

What year ES do you have? It is my understanding that the digital display odometers are very difficult to mess with. You would probably need a different cluster completely.

It's a 97 ES300 and the thought of the cluster was swapped out crossed my mind as well. I was thinking that there is something inside the car that will keep track of the mileage rather than in the cluster itself.

shows us where this spot is so i can see where to look

the cluster being swapped with one with a lower mileage is a fact of life. thats what you use for milage, nothingelse, and the work is not hard to do.
so it may have been. if the car is in good shape, who cares... you stay the same [not really benefit] since you sell it, its still what it is ... you know what im trying t osay.

let me know,
brian

Did you ever get a Car Fax report?
They usually have odo info about your car.
If it shows a higher number than your existing number, you could have some options.
Also did you buy your car from a private party or car dealer?
