Question 1997 ES300 Radio Swap from 2000 ES300?

I've searched through plenty of threads here on the site but still can't find exactly what I'm looking for. Here's the thing....

My 1997 ES300 radio display is out.
Purchased 2000 ES300 radio for cheap. It came with a wiring harness.
The factory harness plugs from 97 radio and the 2000 are slightly different.
Went to walmart, best buy, o'reilly, autozone, circuit city to check out harnesses.
No one knows anything.

Can I splice all of the wires from the 2000 harness with the 97 wires? Some of the wire colors are different and I have been looking for wiring diagrams for both cars to show what all of the colors are to see if they will match for everything.

Pretty much I'm wondering if this can be done before I even attempt to try. Pictures can be posted up if anyone wants.
Thanks.

^WELCOME TO CL AND THE ES SECTION . Yes you can put in the 2000 es's radio in but I will need more info and some time to go to my dads to pull it up on alldata. Is it a nak system or pioneer? Did the old one have a cd changer or say cd? Also did you know you can fix your old one there are some DIYs around here if you look.....

thanks! been just browsing around before opening an account and have already found some pretty good info.

the system is stock pioneer. has the orginal 6 cd changer located in the glove compartment.

I know the display can be taken out and replaced but I figured if it was almost $100 for just the screen then might as well replace the whole damn radio and plus its wood grain! ok well the new 2000 radio isnt the nak system either.

and also i really like the look of the stock radios, they are really clean but if all else fails i'll throw an alpine deck in there one day.

I'm glad you absorbed some info while lurking we all did it at first. Ok so as far as the wiring diagram you gotta give me some time to get on the computer at my dads. I agree with you on the way the stock radio looks soo soo clean. Its the reason I haven't replaced mine yet and if I ever do it would be like what vin78 had in his es. If your ambitious search him and see the setup he had.
