Ignition coil fit and other issues
My ignition coils are starting to go. A few months ago (in this forum), my #3 coil went bad. I replaced it with a Denso and all worked great. My 2000 ES-300 has six coils total (variable valve timing).
Yesterday coils number 1 and 2 went bad. Engine ran terrible as you can imagine, but I was able to get home. I could only buy the Borg-Warner replacement although the part had the same part name (Denso) and part number stamped on it. The dealer wanted 3 times as much money so I did not want to buy from them.
Unfortunately, the parts I bought didn't fit in the spark plug tube!@(#*&$. Very tight. I decided to 'file' down the body so they would fit. All worked and my car runs normal again.
My question is where can I buy parts that I know ahead of time will fit other than the dealer? Since coils are dropping like flies, I suspect they are nearing the end of their service life (70,000 miles; 8 years old). I want to order 3 more coils to replace the still remaining original coils left. Borg-Warner may not be the way to go although they have a lifetime warranty (like that matters ...).
Thanks

COPs [coil over plugs] should last long time, but on cars that are driven very hard, or cars that have spark plug problems, or cars that run very hot, they tend to go bad soon like this
