Expansion valve questions
Hey guys, summer is coming up and I am leaving to go work in Nevada in about a week.
My AC works for 5 minutes after I turn it on and thats all. I replaced the drier but no change. I am pretty sure that its the expansion valve (after doing a lot of searching) but I haven't come across anyone who had replaced theirs. I am still a student and money is kinda tight. I don't want to have to pay 600 if there is a change I can do it. I have my own gauges and freon (from the drier switch) and a good friend of mine knows his way around AC, but he only has worked on American cars.
Anyone done this change? It is rumored the valve is behind the glove box, I looked through a DIY for a LS400 but I don't think mine is the same set up. Any pointers would be great!

Shouldn't be a leak, it's held the freon fine. I have now recharged it two separate times, (before the drier exchange, no difference, after the drier exchange, still have the same problem). Compressor is working fine. No noise from the system, just quits blowing cold or dry air after 5-10 minutes of working fine.

I had the expansion valve on our 94 ES replaced about two years ago. It cost about $450 at a local auto AC repair facility.
I do a lot of work on my cars, but I would never attempt this job. The expansion valve is on the firewall side of the AC components under the dash. You have to remove a lot of stuff just to get to it.
