That is what I'm in school for right now. Since your still in school, if you have not already looked into, you should look into getting some certifications. You should start with your A+, and network+, then move on to cisco certifications.
You will probably have the best luck starting on a help desk for a company, they are the easiest to get into, and you will get the experience you need to break off into other fields of work in IT, plus you generally just need a HS Diploma/GED to get in.
You also have to realize that its just been within the last few years that a lot of places started requiring a degree to get into their IT departments. When it comes down to it though, you really don't need a degree in a specific field to get into it. Employers don't necessarily look at a degree as saying "Alright this guy knows his stuff" they look at as you took the time and and made the commitment to get the degree. That is why you will hear most people saying that you should get a bachelors degree, because it shows more of a commitment then just an associates.

i'm in grad school for neuropharmacology. i might make class of 08, but more likely class of 09.
my husband is a well qualified mechanic (8 ase basic certs, 2 ase specialist certs, toyota hybrid expert, former dealership employee). but he's injured and can't do that anymore, so he's back in school to become a medical equipment tech. more brain power, less spine power required.
