Or is there a cut-off by year or model? I was never sure. Thanks.

This is a topic that has been talked about a lot recently.

The woodgrain is all real wood, its one of the things that Lexus really prides itself on.

100% real, solid wood. Not real wood veneer.

I see the term "wood veneer" used in the dupont registry a lot when dealing with high end cars. What would the difference be from the real solid wood, and the veneer?

Veneer is always a thin layer of wood over another material. This also applies in furniture and other categories as well.

There are different grades of veneer too.
Some are different strips of wood rolled out into a thin, flat sheet.

so what you guys are saying is that in my 98 es the wood that surrounds the shifter, window controls, and ashtray is real? I figured it was plastic!

quick follow up question, did "older" (pre 2000) es300's have an available full wood package like some of the later ones do. (More wood on radio controls/wood wheel)

The coach editions and platinum editions have had extra wood trim (on the radio)
Coach edition in 1996 had real wood trim for the window switch/handles.
JDM Windom has a factory simulated wood trim for the switches 92-96 (you can't use these on USDM)

Yes it's a Veneer. Read it directly from their site.
