What's the deal with the Lexus ES? Is it true that it's a spruced up
camry? I'd love your help as I'm considering these two cars:

I have owned a 2007 Camry SE V6, Fully loaded, Lether, Navigation, moonroof, etc..

It is no match to either my 02 ES300, Or my 05 ES330. The Lexus is just built sooo much nicer.

I owned 2 Camrys before I got a 93 ES300 - while it shared the same platform (chassis and engine) there was no comparison after that. It isn't a sports car, but the smooth ride, power of the engine, the manufacturing and materials were way above the usual Toyota standards. By far, the best car I have owned. Sure a few quirks as it got older but no one would ever look down on the fact I drove a 14 year old Lexus. The Toyota Camrys I drove looked a bit worn after 5 years but the Lexus aged gracefully. I took great care of her and she was awesome up until the day I sold her. I just saw her driving down the road the other day and she still looks great. And black cars are even more beautiful. Good grief, I am getting emotional (sniff, sniff). I've since bought an RX 300 and it shares some of the Camry platform but there's no comparison since it is a quasi-SUV. But that aside, all the ES enthusiasts will soon chime in that it is a great car. I am comtemplating selling the RX and moving to a late model ES or GS but that ES I drove was an awesome car.

I had a 95 (maybe?) Camry v6 xle a few years ago and while I loved it and it was actually what got me looking at the ES300 there is for sure no comparison...Lexus is for sure a much much nicer vehicle.

The ES 300 is a great vehicle. I've had mine since 1996 and she's got over 333,000 miles and still runs great. Good enough power, good gas mileage and the air conditioner is still cold. The ES 300 is a very reliable car through and through. She does have conservative styling and that's okay with me. It is a front wheel drive car so it's not gonna be a performance machine. She's my daily driver and as long as she starts on time, every time for a long time I'll be keeping her for awhile...hopefully I can do another 333,000 mile with her...

well im surprised no one is saying this, but isn't impossible for the es to not have the same ''ride'' as a carmy? I mean, ignoring the psychological ''ride'' that Toyota motor company takes you on.

They have the same motor moutns, engine, trans, subframe design, suspension, and size, and nearly the same weight.

not the same sound deadening for Lexus and Toyota though and I have driven in both 08 Cam and LexES my Best friend works at Toyota of Santa Maria, and there is a difference. It just feels different.

this forum unfortunately covers many different ES 300. I was referring to 90's.... and I'm sure the later ones are the exact same

lsport, feelings are psychological, and the mind can be manipulated. why do you think there are so many car commercials.

Well said!
I dunno, the ES just gets under your skin once you've owned and driven one. Sure the Camry is a fine car, but it just doesn't have the same class, style, and looks of the beautiful ES of any generation!!

ES is a much better car than carmy.
i owned a 1995 ES for a few years and have had almost a total of 16 minor accidents(with other cars(one of them was a Juagar head to head), bus, hitting the wall when parking etc)...none of these accidents required repairing

my friend own a Camry of same year...just one single accident, he has to bring it back to factory for fixing,

i think there's a different in built quality

Wow, 16 accidents in two years?
That's like one every 45 days!

I think maybe this could be a CL record!

the es 300 body may be better and paint, and the interior quality overall. I already think so , too. but the ride quality isn't much better. hell, the 1993 altima review with a stick shift got 65 dB at 60MPH.
the 1992 es300 5speed got 68 dB.
the 1992 camry xle with automatic got 68 dB
see my point? the camry ain't much different, but like heavy traffic going by, sure, the thicker windows come into play.
in accident, sure, the better quality sheetmetal and tightness come into play.
but just normal ride quality is almost the exact same.
sure, the chair you're sitting on can affect that, unfortunately, the seats in the front are firm, so they're not giving you a big bonus on the camry, there.
the suspension is virtually the same.
the subframe is the same.
the tires may be different -- slight changes there. slight. how many camry and es 300 right now have those same tires?

I actually am riding on all-season dunlop sp sport. which are basically the exact tire my car came with, maybe just revised version, at this point since it's been so long.

Wow I didn't even notice it (shows what you get when you read to fast
). So I must hear about these 16 accidents and how you fixed the car afterwards.
