This is always a hot topic, but I can tell you from experience that drop in air filters don't do jack for performance or MPG, maybe a little more throttle response but hardly anything you will truely notice. Also, this whole thing about oil destroying the MAF...........well I used to believe this but in fact the two MAF's I've lost in my life were using "dry" filters designed not to screw up your MAF.........I've used countless K&N applications and never ever have I had a MAF issue with them. Stick with OEM paper filters if you don't need an intake, there's a reason why they use them, it's because they filter the best and allow suffcient air flow. Also, they are not dry at all, lay it on a piece of paper for a bit and you'll see what I mean.

It comes pre-oiled from the factory. I think the problem lies when you re-charge it. After you clean it you need to re-oil it. When you put too much oil, thats when you might encounter the oil on the MAF, but when you clean it right, i dont think you should have a problem with the oil. How many can do it right tho? I hear some people just buy a new one @ 20k miles. They dont even bother cleaning it. heh. to each his own i guess.

Hi all,
Wondering if the ES with K&N problems has that carbon filter in the air box lid like my RX 330? Will that make a difference in the fouling potential of the MAF. Sorry if too much of a nube question, but it seemed that the carbon filter was not always there over the years.

Ive used them in my 2 previous cars. 1 was a cone filter for a custom intake, other was a drop in. Never had any problems with either. I would buy again but probably not the drop in. As for any improvements with mpg, I would say very little. But does it add up in the long run to make it worth it?

when you oil a k&N air filter you really have to apply a small amount. if you dont...that is the reason why you are burning your maf. at the shop i worked at we have cleaned and oiled hundreds of k&n's and never had problems. so only spray a minimal amount of oil on the filter.
