Default JDM Grille Project 2nd Gen

I made a 'jdm' grille thread with my 95' grille (it didn't look that good, and the plastic tabs broke off) so..
I got a 92-94 grille! (These are rare )
I finally found a reasonably priced listing on ebay from a 92.
Its made from metal, and i like how the slats are thinner, not tacked on like the 95-96.

The grilles are interchangeable, but the 92-94 grilles have different bolts/nuts

Now I'll have to wait until after freshman orientation to sand and paint the grille chrome surround and slats with flat black insert

BTW this angle for the pic really makes the es look lowered

Looks great! Lovin' ur 1/8" chrome trim around the bumper too tuan92129! I copied your idea on mine and it's very subtle but effective.

lol i messed up on my chrome trim. Did a 1/4" for the bumpers last year, forgot about the size so went ahead and bought 1/8" for the rest of the car...

And i copied it off of the pics of the JDM windoms floating around the internet.
What would it be like, to meet the JDM people who try to make their cars USDM (right down to the warning/safety labels) and us trying to make our cars JDM

Looks nice always nice to find jdm trim. On another note I've been debating doing the jdm trim on my 3rd gen. But I'm not sure how it would look with the monotone.

I do...I'll have to find it.
The front and rear bumpers + chrome trim fit almost like oem. Theres a little groove where the trim fits in perfectly. The side door panel has no groove, so from close up it looks kinda tacked on since its not flush with the car body.

Here's mine. Not a great pic but you get the idea. It takes about a roll and a half to do all the way around.

Lexucan, what width trim did you use, and have you had any problems with it peeling off?

I used the 1/8" stuff, the same as tuan92129. It's only been on the car about two months now but I doubt that there will be any peeling problems. It sticks to the paint really well with the adhesive material they use. It's like extra narrow 3M double-sided foam tape. There's a couple of really short sections on the car (maybe an inch and a half long) between the rear door and the rear wheel well, and even those are on there really solidly. But if they should ever come off, There's lots left over from the second roll (you need two rolls to complete the job) to cut another piece and put it on, however, I doubt that will ever be necessary.

Oh, and about a week after putting the trim on, I removed the rear bumper cover to install a parking assist system, and the trim wasn't affected at all. It stayed stuck to the bumper no problem. So yeah, I'd say it's on there to stay!

I will be painting the grille tomorrow.
I'm not sure how to paint it...I could leave the slats white and do chrome around the edge, or chrome the trim and slats, or chrome the trim and paint the slats black....

Blegh... I painted the grille today but it didn't come out too well.

First, i wetsanded and one coat of automotive flat black paint.
Then i taped off the sides and painted the outer edge chrome.
I added a layer of clear (and turned the chrome into a dull gray)
So i added some duplicolor metal effects spray to make it slightly gunmetal...but didn't come out as well as i wanted.
The inner slats need to be chromed too.
I'm calling a couple chroming shops tomorrow to see how much it will cost to chrome plate the entire grille
