Default 2001 Coach Edition Headlight Help

*note to Moderators see below

Here's a question...my brother just bought and brought in a 2001 Coach Edition back to Canada from Sewell Lexus and he noticed that he didn't have the HID lamps. Now the dealer said the car had and as much research as he did on the car, he concluded the car had them.

My first question is whether anybody knows if the HIDs were optional for the Coach Edition of that year.

My second question out of curiosity, is whether an HID fitted car would work with regular 900x bulbs for the headlights. i.e, if somebody took the HID bulbs out and stuck in a couple of regular halogens? I would think not but i'm not sure either. Funny thing is, is that the housing for the lights on his American Spec 2001 ES is the same as my Canadian Spec 2001 ES. Maybe the housing doesn't matter at all? I always thought that the housing for a halogen set would look a little different than the HID setup.

Lastly, is there any clear markers on the housing or components of the light that would clearly identify it as Halogen or HID, i mean other than turning the lights on and seeing the actual light intensity difference? Thanks to anybody who can offer up some info on this one. We have a new member in the fam now...

Cheers,
V

* Moderators i realize we have a lighting forum but i just wanted to see if the ES forum could help due to familiarity first, if i don't see any responses, would you mind moving this thread over as i do not want to dual post. Thanks.

...yeah, my 01 ES has the same indicators, I was more interested in knowing how the american spec ES' are different with respect to headlights and if the systems would work with incorrect bulbs. he'll have to buy the XenonDepot kit for his car to look like mine

Cheers

You cannot put halogen bulbs in an HID housing. Secondly the halogen and HID housings look different.

The coach edition headlight has a different finish on the headlight bezel. Its lightly smoked and textured.

hey yeah i think all of the stock HIDs are smoked around the bezel because my 2000 has them and its not a coach or platinum... im thinking of maybe tinting the corners a bit to match
