Default ES300 Supercharged, it's alive!

I was fortunate enough to source/find a complete TRD supercharger kit for the 1MZ-FE Camry/Solara.

Install went really smooth, and I will have a full compliment of engine bay pics in a day or so. For some reason my hood strut support decided to brake after I finished. /doh

I do have some teaser vids that I just snapped 30 min ago, they are a rolling 1st gear, then 2nd gear pull.

1st gear

2nd gear (freeway onramp)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqehlPW6u_g

Power application is really smooth, I do have the TRD EBC installed (cut boost between shifts, and no low RPM 1st gear boost) Running on the stock pulley. No boost gauge yet, but should be pushing around ~4psi. Top end feels GREAT! Definitely makes me think that a 5spd swap is the next logical step.

Enjoy!

didn't realize you could stick 5 spd on that car ...

I would think that a supercharger is kind of mild. Exhaust driven turbocharger should be best, especially one naturally giving more high-end torque as opposed to low-end torque.

Cool though, I'll contact you more in future especially if I end up doing some mods. I plan to one day do some stuff to this car, if I dont get MX-3 first [and do KLDE swap + turbo, which to put it simple, would be faster than hell]

I wonder what your car does on a drag strip .

well 5-spd conversion is not trivial, need all the running gear from the Solara, etc.

Yeah let me know if you have any Q?'s

Wow, It's been a while since we've had some active FI ES's around here. I'd love to see some pictures of the install, the parts you used, and of course a dyno and drag slip. From what I can see from the youtube video, there is a very noticeable gain in pickup.

Those TRD superchargers are a hard find, and they aren't cheap either! How much was it?

You are absolutely right, they aren't cheap. But then that's what happens when something is really hard to find.

I ended up paying $3k for the complete kit, low miles, etc.

Dyno will probably not happen for awhile, since it really doesn't make sense to dyno the stock setup, I'm sure its putting down the same numbers as the S/C solara/camry.

I am looking to do some fuel system upgrades, then probably going to strap on a smaller S/C pulley to make around 6psi or so. That should put me very close to the 300hp range.

Question

Very nice!

On a related note, can anyone tell me if the intake bolt patterns are the same for the 3VZ and the 1MZ (for the 2ES owners, who might consider a similar move as an FI alternative)?

Thought TRD made a supercharger for the 3vz... didn't they?

I rode in a supercharged Camry not too long ago and its too much money for that little power IMO. But just my 2 cents

Well it's not all about breakneck power... The power delivery is very smooth, and gives me great passing ability without having to kick down a gear on the freeway. Also the noise puts a smile on my face So yeah, definitely worth it for me

But then again, I'm a forced induction junkie. Must resist pulley upgrade, must resist!!
