I don't know what to say. I would always get 18-19 mpg in my 93 es300.
But today I noticed I had gotten 185 miles by the halfway mark which was unusual. So I filled it up and it only took 7.5 gallons.
I thought it had stopped by a fluke so I forced it but it just overfilled onto my shoes. so 185/7.5 = 24.6667. 25 mpg!!!! Most of my driving was in the city, to work, girlfriends house, friends house, etc.
I guess it must of been my change in driving. I decided to try and go a whole tank without going above 2500 rpm. I guess that must of done it.
I remember the worst was 14 mpg. but that was when i floored it at every light.
Oh, and its an automatic.

Most people think more RPM = more GAS, but it's actually more about the throttle angle. You can floor your car to 3000RPM and shift, and waste more gas than easing to 3500-4000 and shift.
This is very easily proven with a manual transmission than an automatic.

Wow , you're right on, except that you're compeltely wrong.
I don't feel like explaining at the moment, but you mixed it up. you can push the pedal half way down and shift at 3000 RPM from first to top gear allowable, then cruise at that speed and use less fuel [on that hypothetical trip] than someone who shifts sooner with less gas pedal or someone who shifts sooner.
It actually has to do with engine load, vacuum [at idle for reference], gearing, drivetrain traction, and vehicle mass. but in general, the old saying jack rabbit starts are bad for fuel economy is COMPLETELY WRONG. its going fast -- NOT one's act of accelerating briskly in the low gears[typical stick] or first gear and part of second [typical auto] -- that BRINGS LESSER overall fuel economy [what you see in MPG] since this is not running the engine with maximum fuel efficiency.
I used to tell people this all the time, and get lots of 'nut uh' , until those fancy hybrids and the like came out [the early and mid 2000s, were what I had read about, I don't know if they still make this kind of car] and had stick shifts and very meticulous-types behind the wheel. Those cars have detailed fuel use logs and instantaneous consumption metering. What I had been saying was proved correct. The gain was for those cars 1 to 2 %. It was proven without a doubt.

BDSL, nobody touches my car, I have the only key and the spare key is hidden somewhere.
Unless someone stole my car then filled it up with gas to be nice and left no trace. Then that would happen.
Most likely I just got 25mpg driving economically. Thats it.
