BDSL, you're no help here, and you were less help in my thread.
Maybe it just took time for your car to get the oil around. The clanking was probably due to the piston arms hitting the crankshaft where a little space is where oil is supposed to be. Did the noise stop?
If it didn't then you have a worn bushing somewhere thats letting a little play with what ever it is touching.

Piston arms do NOT hit the crankshaft. There are bearings at both ends of the rods.
Animals (i.e. squirrel) do crawl into our engine area and store their nuts/food there. Sometimes these nuts/food get stuck in moving parts (i.e. belt/pulley) resulting in noises.
Waffles, maybe you should work on cars more often and learn how to drive so that you get better fuel consumption.

Um, guys,, there is no need for the conflict and confusion here. Let's try to keep this forum both member friendly and helpful. A question was asked and opinions were given. Whether it was correct or not, it was what it was,,,an opinion. This is no place for the open insults to other members. Please take this kind of conflict to PM's.
Ariyana,, not quite sure what the noise you heard was. I could be a number of things, and we would appreciate it if you could provide as much info as possible.

We had a similar problem with our 94 ES about a year and a half ago. Sometimes we would have to switch the ignition on and off several times to get the car to crank. Sometimes the engine would seem to crank but the car would shake very badly. The shaking was very similar to what we used to call "dieseling" some years ago.
I first checked the battery and found one weak cell. The battery was under warranty, and I got a new one from Sam's Club. I then replaced the starter relay. Neither of these moves solved the problem.
The car had about 140,000 miles on it at that point, and I decided that the problem probably was a failing starter. I ordered one from Park Place Lexus in Texas and had it installed. We have driven about 10,000 miles since that time, and there have been no further starter problems.
Unlike some Lexus models, the starter in the ES models is easily accessible and not difficult to replace. It is also fairly inexpensive.
