Default '02 es 300 - HID or Halogen

Hi all!
I'm brand new to the forum and have a question.
My front left headlight has gone out and i called the dealership about replacement - he said if it is an HID light that it will be around $500 to replace - but if it is a regular one it will be a lot less.

is there anyway to tell if it is an HID or a Halogen without taking it in to the dealer? The one that is out has a small silver cap in front of it.

Also - can i fix both at home myself with the correct light?

I believe your car has HID's. HID bulbs run quite expensive, 500 sounds a lot to me though. You can just buy the HID bulb and put it in yourself.

Just be careful not to hit it around while putting it in its place.

Are you lights bright white, slightly bluish? Or are they like every other car and yellowish?

Even if they are HID, You can buy bulbs online for about $40-$50 each.

In addition to the previous post, you could turn on your lights without the car running. If you hear a distinct humming/buzzing sound coming from the lights, they are HID.

if the bulb looks like a stubby cylinder with a point on the top its halogen. but if its a long tube with a small piece of metal running up the side its a HID. u can buy HID replacement bulbs online or from a shop. lots of sites, jus goggle it

er, if its capped then its halogen. cheap bulbs at ur local auto shop, but i recommend silverstar ultras. and on the chance it is HID make sure u buy the right temp of the color of the light will be off. if ur clueless then just take it to a shop, NOT the dealership and have them do it. dealerships tend to overcharge for everything
