having swirl mark after paintjob... normal?
i just picked up my 02 ES300 from this bodyshop after getting my front bumper, hood and rear door repainted with some minor bodywork. and i notice that it has lot of swirl marks on the body just like before it was taken in. i know they sanded down before painting it. is this normal? and there are couple of bubbles... i am taking it back tomorrow but are swirl marks normal? i am kinda frustrated after spending good amount of money on this bodywork

No, that is not good.
Bubbles and swirls is bad for fresh paint. Are they using Microfibers and quality products. If they wiped it down with a mechanic rag or something it would get swirls. How many clear coats did they put on. I would just tell them/ask what they are doing or stay and watch... Swirls can be removed w/Meguiar's products.

Well, swirls are pretty much standard if they sanded and polished afterwards. Body shops suck at that most of the time so I'm not surprised. I forced them not to sand/polish my car when my driver panels were repainted. I can and did a better job wetsanding and doing all that than they did
Bubbles are bad. Take it back and tell them to redo it. Its that or you'll end up like me, with one square (cut out the bubble and sanded it down) with no protection as it was too late when I noticed it (behind my front plate...stupid CA laws...)

well I just droped off my car back to that same bodyshop. i complained about their work and he replied "well you had lots and lots of rockchips on the hood, what did you expect?" and i got ticked off and told him to redo it. but now i am worried how they will mess it up even more...
they said they will buff out the bubble(???) is that even possible? it looks like they painted over dust. i will keep you guys updated... hope it comes out okay. anything i should ask for? or tell them to do?

It should, Sounds like orange peel which is typical, and not actually a bad thing. But the way you described some of the other issues make it sound like you went to a crappy, back yard garage body shop.....

When my sister owned the '93 es that now sits in my garage, she bumped the driver's door against a 'jack post' in her garage.
The body shop repaired the door, and it looked good.
They polished the whole car after the repairs.
There were swirls and very fine scratches over the whole car!
And this was a reputable local shop that had gotten rave reviews about their work.
The car went back and the body shop manager 'made it good'.

i got my front end repainted because of a wreck and my hood was painted over when dust was on it. people just dont care about their business anymore its sad how you spend good amount of money and they half *** it. swirl marks can be removed by yourself with meguiars but its gonna take some time to get it all gone if its your whole car i would just bring it to a professional detailer and get it buffed really good. and bubbles in a fresh paint job? thats not good.

Orange peel refers to some texturing in the paint that resembles the peel of an orange. You can find it on most cars, many now even have it from the factory. Someone more versed in paint can probably explain a little more.
