Default 96 ES 300 Total loss??

Guys,

Got in a low speed fender bender last week. Damage to the right front and front right. Right headlight, front bumper, right quarter, impact near the wheel. Mileage is 235,000.
Damage is estimated at $6000 but insurance wants to total it for $5100.

Any professional opinions. I love this car and want to drive it till it won't go anymore. But don't want to be all emotional about it and make a dumb financial decision. I could run down my options but you guys know what they are. Thanks. Walter

I say total it for $5100, it has a lot of miles on it you should get money from while you still can.....

the totaled car is still yours, keep it, and sell it for salvage or try to fix it up really basic

You can find another ES for short money these days...its the only reason why I haven't let mine go yet; it runs too good and I can only get a few grand for it so better to keep it.

Watch craigslist for a good replacement.
Use the parts you need and sell the parts you don't want.
I picked up my '96 for less than you insurance co is giving you, and it only had 122K miles on her.
There's deals to be had, but there's also lots of junk you have to sort through.
Good Luck, and sorry to hear you lost your good friend.
