Default seems very odd to me

yesterday i installed an aftermarket air filter on my girlfriends 98 es300
the smaller egr hose that runs to the top of the motor and the slightly thicker one at the bottom are not hooked up i was told that they shouldnt matter but she said that the rpms were jumping and acting weird tonight so if anyone can tell me what might be wrong it would be greatly appreciated

yes, those are vacuum hoses. you need them hooked back up into the intake "kit". that is why the idle is acting all funky.

goodluck

ok one more question does the factory box not the box that houses the factory filter but the little restrictive bull**** box have to be on it cause when i took it off the car dies and wouldnt start again but thats might be because the hose that runs from the cylinder head to the intake was just ran straight out into the atmosphere

that box with the wires? i believe thats your mass air flow(maf) sensors. if so, you will need that in the intake system.

somebody else with intakes care to chime in. i cant say i have experience with es, but with other vehicles.

well what bothers me is that i know other people have aftermarket intakes. without the stock airbox. I have the maf in it but i had to put the box with all the little compartments back on it. not the one that houses the filter the one closer to the throttle body. i think maybe if i took that box off and plugged the hose that runs into it into one of the rubber peices ,maybe i can get the same power gains as i had without the box when i first put it on. I will try and post pics up soon
