car died at gas station last night! help
i have a 1998 cali model es300. i got to the gas station last night and for the first time ever i filled up with the car running. anyway i have no clue if this has anything to do with anything but the car shut off, stalled, or whatever. but the engine stoped running. anyway it would not crank over after that. i was gettign no hiss wine or anythign from the fuel pump so i assumed it was that so i changed it today. well that was not the problem and to test it i powered the old fuel pump and it ran fine. is there some fuse or relay or something im missing. i reset the battery. im clueless as to what the cause is cause the car ran fine. no oil leaks engine sounds clean. when it ran that is. any help would be greatly appreaciated. OH YEA THE CAR BATTERY IS STRONG AND the starter CRANKS GOOD BUT JUST DOES NOT START AND DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE POWERING THE FLUE PUMP. tHE FUEL GUAGE WORKS SO I ASSUME ITS SOMETHIGN MORE TECHNICAL THAT THE PUMP AINT RUNNING. THANKS GUYS.

heres what i found in the book,
simple fix if it is this, let me get this straight, the engine cranks, but just doesnt turn over? also when u have the key to ON, do all the dash lights come on as if you're just about to start the car?

everythign on the car works like it should. all lights come on. the car just does not start. whe i turn the key to the on but not enought to crank it i used to hear the hiss of the fuel pump but i dont hear that right now witch is why i thought it was the fuel pump. that would be awsom if it was a stupid relay but woulf that just go bad and make my car stall? cause my car was fine then stalled.

lol you just never know...the fuel pump relay or the fuse could have gone bad. and like u said you dont hear the initial hiss of the fuel pump.
think about it, if something goes bad, it does so at any given time. it doesnt hurt to check, ya know?
good luck!

the mechanic says it has no injector pulse and no spark. his manual told him its the ignitor plug. but he changed it and it was not the problem. so now i have a new fuel pump, a new ignitor plug and the car still wont start

wait wait wait... You put gas while your car was on? geezus! thats crazy!!!!!
anyways, you already change the fuel pump, ignitors.. hmmm does your car crank?
meaning does the car "try to start the engine?"

whats so crazy about this??
i do this all the time too
so the mechanic said the injectors have no pulse coming to them?
you werent around the car when it turned off?
how low on fuel were you?
my guess would be clogged injectors but having no pulse is a different problem like wiring harness ECU

theres a reason why the instruction says "please shut off your engine before filling up gas"
bluntly speaking, by all means go ahead and keep on doing that, your car, not mines.
when your already doing that, might as well poor engine oil while the car is on.

while you were filling the tank, the fuel pump is constantly working, and to my theory ,the pressure from the gas hose may have cause some internal damage.
furthermore, theres a possibilty that in the process of filling your tank the pressure from the hose forced too much gas to the engine, and therefore flooding the engine and that can lead to an engine stall.
