stupid question.. how can i detect my gas mileage?

if by detect you mean calculate this is how i do it.
1. Fill up your tank
2. reset your tripometer to 0 (I use Trip A)
3. Drive your car
4. Fill up later on at empty or half a tank
5. keep your receipt this time and record how much you have traveled.
6. reset your Trip
now the math. On your receipt you should have how many litres or gallons of gas you used to fill up your car the second time around. now take that number and the miles or kms you have travelled and go to google.com and type in "fuel mileage calculator". Something should pop up where you just put in the numbers and everything should calculate.

If you want to be as accurate as possible, fill the car up both times (steps 1 and 4 above) from the same exact pump. Stop filling as soon as the automatic shut off stops the pump, do not add any more.
grab a calculator (every PC has one as do most cell phones).
(# of miles driven / the # of gallons you pumped to fill back up) = mpg.
