Default My Poor Car...

Well my car was parked outside last night in Madison over halloween and some drunk person walked over it... Yes they stepped on the hood, front windshield, sunroof, back windshield and trunk. I saw the foot prints this morning and could have cried. When I took it on the highway today there was a slight air noise coming from the sunroof and I could tell it was not normal. I took the car through the car wash and a very slight amount of water came through from the high pressure. It appears like the back side of the window (where this idiot stepped) did recess down a little bit and is not level with the front.

The sunroof opens, closes and tilts fine but it is definitely not right with the wind noise and the water. Do you suggest I try to dig into it myself to fix it (being somewhat handy) or just take it to the shop and pay hand over fist? Any suggestions into how to fix it/how complex the sunroofs are?

Thanks guys.

btw, it is a 1997 ES300

well, you could try to dig into it yourself, but there is a lot that is required to get to the sunroof unit. youll need to gut a lot of the interior and then remove the unit as one piece, witch probably weighs close to ~50lbs just for the sunroof.

Real sorry to hear what happened to your car. Halloween is definitely a time when ppl (stupid ppl that is) figure they can do stuff like that to other ppl's property, and unfortunately not everybody has a garage they can park in. But as charley said, to get to the sunroof, the whole interior headliner has to be removed. This sort of repair is not something I would want to tackle on my own. But if you are up for it, by all means. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. There is a very small dent on the hood.

I guess i'll take a closer look at it tomorrow and see if I still have the ***** to dig into it. I'll let you guys know.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Well I fixed it... I was inspecting it while opening/closing and couldn't find anything wrong. I pushed up on both corners hard when it was closed and it snapped back into position. Sits level now and opens/closes/tilts and seals just like new.
