Unhappy RIMS: need help guys!!!

I am thinking of getting new rims for my 99 ES. Any idea what rim and tire size to get? I don't know if 17"s would be good or should I go with 18"s? I am planning of lowering my car as well so I hope you guys can help me.

First off WELCOME TO CL!!!!!!!!! Second plan for your lowering before your rims or have them done at the same time or your rims wont look right. Now you can go two ways one being lowering springs, new struts, and strut mounts which is about $600+. Or coilover which is about 1k-1.5k honestly for the price difference I wish I had gone coilover. The ability to adjust your camber and drop is a big deal when it comes to rims. As far a size up to a 19" will look good although most just go with 18" like I have. Remember keep your width below 8.5" and your offset between 25mm-45mm. Good luck

uh yea post up those pics. If every body but you and maybe idk one or two other people and nobody who has been here for at least a year thinks 20's are over done on a gen 1-3 es and looks stupid it must be for a reason. Even with a nice drop it still looks like a sunken 4x4. Even more so you are gonna find out that your gonna run into fitting and rubing issues with most 20's since they are usually very wide. Next time before you jump up and are so quick to defend your 20's take your time and do some research first.

^ yep wait till he drops it....

Chaos: 8.5 max width? because I was thinking of putting G35 rims on my 2nd gen like the one guy that has it on his 3rd.... I believe the rears are slightly wider than 8.5 but the fronts are 8.5...

Well what it really depends on is the offset. My rims are 8.5 in the rear 45mm offset and it was a struggle to make them fit. I had to put in longer studs, 12mm spacers and grind some off the inside of the fenders and I still rub some. If your offset is like 25-30mm you MIGHT be able to make it fit but its not for certain. You say someone made them fit on an es? You might want to ask him. Hopefully charley240 will chime in on this he knows a litle more on how to fit very wide rims. But if you want a quick answer I would say no they are not worth the headache

yea, to the op, the diameter of the wheel isnt the big factory, its the offsets of the wheels and width.
we need more info to be able to help you out, 15"-18" fits , but its all up to the width and offsets.
mine are 19, but my widths and offsets selected were fine, so thats why im able to get away.

yes, let us know

Mind me asking what you used for width and offset?

i went 140mph in my 20s and it feels like im going 60 lol.

Anybody but me miss this?? I didn't think the ES would get up this high without struggle. Not saying it wont, but I am not as deply informed about the ES as I am about an LS. What in the world is the speed limiter on an ES? My first gen LS is limited to 149 and I have only done 140 (on a track,,straight line), before things got really uncomfortably, light and I backed off of it (and I have drop and am on 18's). You doing 140 on 20's, sitting up in the air without any reduction on the center of gravity(no drop) to your car is just dangerous. Props to you if your claim is true, but I like my internals right where they are. If you like the 20's,and you think it looks good, then hey it's your car,,, rock what you like!!! Just don't be mad when you do post pics up on a PUBLIC forum and not everyone is feeling what you are trying to achieve. DUB style is not everyone's forte', and everyone here is entitled to their opinions; be it positive or negative.

KAN09,,In most cases, most of the members here pretty much stick to an 18" wheel with a drop, and IMO affords the PERFECT stance to the car while giving you adequate rubber under the rims as well. I know a few here have done 19's(Smitty,,Charley,,etc.), but you have to be just about dead on perfect with the offsets and widths of the rims. Anything larger than an 18, while it will fit if the numbers are right , are gonna require some fender modification (rolling, shaving, pulling, etc), especially if you are gonna do a drop.

I caught that I just didn't want to even acknowledge his stupidity and unrealisticness. As far as top speed I googled it http://www.automallusa.net/1997/lexu...0/reviews.html
http://www.theautochannel.com/vehicl.../solo9707.html
http://www.toyoland.com/lexus/es300.html

So yea its top speed may be about 140 which would make sense if he had stock size tires or close to it but sense he has 225/30/20 tires his speedo is off by 2.6%. Now that would make his speed 143.64 which MAY be done in track like conditions if the car is in PERFECT condition which as much as I love my es it like many others here is not in PERFECT condition. Also adding the fact that he hasn't defended his statement makes the likeliness of this tale is slim to none.
