I have noticed that when braking during high speeds (on highways going 50-60+ mph) the steering wheel vibrates. I recently got new brakes and had the rotors checked and they appear to be fine. (The steering wheel would shake during breaking even before I got new brakes too) Any ideas? Maybe I just need an alignment? Have any of you guys experienced this before?
I have an 05 ES 330 with 42k miles on it.
Thanks for any input you may have.

Usually shaking while braking means warped rotors. One thing comes into mind is that when you changed your brake pads, did they turn the rotor or just checked it. If they just checked it, then that's your problem. You are supposed to turn the rotor every time you change your brakes to ensure that they stay flat.
Reason why your car didn't do it before the brake change was because your pads and your rotors warped/wore down together in the same way. So your pads and your rotors were "evenly" warped. With new pads, they are flat and your rotors, not so flat. what would happen is the shaking you are experiencing.

Thanks, I will call the brake guys tomorrow to find out whether they turned them or not. I have a feeling that they just checked like you said, however, the wheel vibration was occuring even before my new brakes were installed. Does that change your diagnosis at all?

if it did it before then your rotors are warped and you should have gotten it changed at that time or turned.

I wouldn't be able to answer that for you for two reasons:
1. I am in Canada and US gets WAY cheaper stuff
2. I haven't had the luck of replacing mine yet
I would say that you should call around.. usually you can find a decent deal.
maybe someone can chime in here...

I have tried Brembo and they works pretty well.
My mechanic also recommend the Centric.

hey there. Sounds to me like the front rotors are warped. Some rotors can be machined and some cant (many euro cars cant) as there is a minimum thickness that they can be machined down to.
In my experience (here in Oz) it is far cheaper to have them machined rather than have them replaced. Any good brake shop should be able to test the runout (ie how warped the rotors are) on-car. If machining is needed, they will probably need to be removed from the vehicle.
Cheers, Pete.
