Transmission Replacement Trouble
PROBLEM: ES300 A541 Transmission into 93' Camry V6
So my friend (Gf's brother) and i took up the huge job of replacing the engine (blew headgasket) and transmission (slipping gears) on my Gf's mom's 93' Toyota Camry.
We're at the point where we're hit one snag. The transmission we got from the importer came out of a late 90's ES300 and there's one electrical plug on the A541(ES300) transmission that doesn't match up on the A540k(CAMRY) transmission that originally came on the 93' Camry. The electrical plug is located to the right of the gear selector plug. The difference between the plugs is the number of wires each plug contains. The A541 plug has a total of 6 wires, while the A540K plug has a total of 3 wires. We managed to remove the entire plug and wire harness out of the A540K transmission and noticed that the 3 wires are black, red, and yellow. We were told by my mechanic friend to just match up the wires color by color. But the thing is the A541 plug has the 6 wires and there's also 2 yellow wires.
So has anyone encountered this situation? What do i do about the wiring? I'm guessing the A541 transmission has more accessory options, thus more wires.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Let me see if I I understand you correctly. The tranny you have is an A541 and the vehicle you are installing it into is a 93 toyota Camry.
The female conector on the A541/A541E has a 6 wire plug provides electrical signals to the Solenoids for the transmission. If they are not matching up to the vehicle you can do one of a few things to correct.
The female connector on the A 540 tranny has a 3 wire plug that provides ecu signals to the tranny solenoids. (3 solenoids) (This is the optimum for a 1993 Camry)
The female connector on the A541/A541E has a combination of either 4 solenoids or 3 solenoids and 1 electronic piston. Both valve bodies take the same 6 wire external female conector
1) obtain an A540 valve body which will have the correct connector for you to install the tranny as the A540 A541 and 541E are the same externally with the differences in the valve bodies that are contained within. Most notably are the amount of solenoids for each respective valve body.
2) If an A540 valve body will not seat in the A541 tranny you will have to remove transmission and seek an A540 tranny. I believe the A540 and A541/A541E have the same bolt pattern for the valve bodies and if this is correct you can use an A540 valve body with the correct external female connector for the tranny BUT! you will also need the A540 fluid pipes for the A540.
I have access to an A540 tranny and valve body if you wish to try let me know what you decide.
I will check to see if the A540 will seat into the A541E tranny tonight and let you know my findings.
I would recommend not cut any wires to get the tranny to work as you may destroy the transmission if done incorrectly.

Well, Do you guys have any idea on U140e parts compatibility? If I ever had to do a trans swap in my 99 es could I use an A541E and do some sort of swap like that with valve bodies or something?
We happen to have the 18 bolt tranny pan. : (
We DO have about 205k on it and it drives absolutely perfect in all ways. I just want to become well informed about the options other than another U140E which by demand cost about 4~5x as much as the A541.....
Thanks for any info!
