Anyone drilled through their firewall?

Anyone drilled through their firewall?
I'd heard on an audio forum a while back that the ES firewall is a double panels filled in between with sand, or something along those lines. I'd never heard this before or since, and have no clue if this guy knew what he was talking about; but I don't want to drill into it and find out he's right.
So, does anybody know? It'd make my life easier if I could put a few holes in the firewall.

I have done this to my 96 ES300, and it worked out just fine. I did not notice any sand in between or anything. I drilled in and grabbed the wire from above the gas and brake pedals. I don't think you should have a problem.

I'd be drilling to put in a few screws to mount brackets for hanging HLCD speakers; so I'm not running wires through. Otherwise I would've tried an existing grommet. Thanks for the suggestion though.
