3rd Gen: Tail Lights
Can the 3rd Gen tail lights have the amber removed? I am looking at potentially doing this with my car, but have not been find any information about how to do this for this generation. I have found some instructions for the 2nd Gen tail lights. I have a MY97 and I know the 2000 models came with cleared out lenses, but they would probably cost an arm and a leg to buy.
If I can remove the amber bits in the tail light that would be fantastic, however if I have to purchase a 2000-2001 tail light then that may be the only solution.

No I personally don't believe it can be done at all. Look carefully at the orange in the 3rd gen tails and I think you will find it is not an INNER orange plastic insert surrounded by an outer layer of plastic like the 2nd gen but it forms part of the entire OUTER lense itself.
This means even if you could remove the orange bit then you would be left with a huge open hole in your lens and you would have to make a custom clear insert and seal it between the red plastic parts. Not really possible in my opinion.

Ah dang. Does anyone have a damaged light? I'm probably reaching to be honest, so it looks like I may have to actually buy the 00-01 tail lights instead. They look fantastic and I would really like to get that clear look going.

You might be lucky on Ebay in the USA - I have seen them occasionally listed on there but only bits and pieces here and there and not a full complete set.
They do look awesome though once you have them. It took me just over a year to get mine! Worth the wait.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but from experience I would start saving now for the 2000-2001 tails because I can tell you that you would be extremely lucky to find any second hand ones anywhere In Aust, and you certainly won't find them new in Aust for under $1,100- $1,600 all up. They are even hard to come by second hand in the USA and almost just as much to buy new in the USA after the $ conversion (At least around $1,000 AUS once all is said and done)

Seeing as I am on the topic of 3rd gen lights, has anyone ever tried to get the inner lights to light up? I don't know if it's been done before but would be an interesting project I reckon.
