Default Headlights ON/ Cluster lights OFF

We've had this 1994 ES300 for about 9 months. A couple minor issues I have repaired. This new problem has me stumped. When you turn the car on all dashlights work okay. When you turn the parking or headlights on the cluster lights, radio, and climate control lights go off. Turn signals, door ajar, headlights "on" indicator, all work on the cluster but the backlighting and needles go off. Any ideas?

Thanks

Check the dimmer switch. Its possible its dirty, so try to hit it with some electrical contact cleaner and/or blow it out with air really well. Keep us updated!

^^ I agree. But maybe it's just that the dimmer is turned all the way off. If not, then as 92ES5sp says, it's probably a dirty or faulty dimmer switch.

Nope, its normal. The lights dim at night for less glare. You have the switch set to the lowest setting, so during the day w/ the headlight/parking light off they are lighted (at their lowest day-setting) and when you turn on the headlight/parking light it dims (except completely b/c on lowest setting).

92ES5sp thanks for the tip it worked! The dimmer switch was off. I keep it low to extend the life of the needles and somehow it got turned off. Working great now. Thanks again.

Well Im not gonna take the credit for it. It was Lexucan and tuan92129 that hit it on the head. I figured the switch was dirty or defective. Glad all is good though!
