Default Oil change for es300?

Hello. I have a 99lexus es300 with 86000miles. I want to get an oil change but want to do it myself. I been getting the oil change from the dealers since I've had my car, but now I will be able to do it myself. I want to know what kind of oil do the dealers use? Can you please be exact. And how many bottles or quarts do they use. Anyhelp will be greatly appreciated. THANKS ALOT!

Honestly, I couldn't tell you what the dealers use, if I ever go in to get it done, I provide the oil.

I personally use Mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic, with a Mobil 1 filter. You looking at about 5-6 quarts.

Do you know how much Mobil 5w-30 oil costs. The dealer charges $45 for doing the oil change.

Dealers use very bad oil called petroleum which doesn't protect your engine at startup and hardens all your seals. It also contains waxes which cause gelling and can even clog and kill your engine.

You need to get pure synthetic oil e.g. Mobil1 or Amsoil which costs more but you don't need to change it as often. You also should get a high quality oil filter such as Amsoil or NAPA Gold.

Now to purchase 5 quarts of synthetic oil and a good filter is not cheap, but as I said you can then change your oil less often. Amsoil Signature 0W-30 is rated for 35000 miles or 1 year. That's equal to 7 changes of petroleum oil!

i always change both my 02 ES300 and 04 GX470 with Mobil1 5w-30 with Mobil1 Extended Mileage Filter. There has been price increase on Mobil1 Products recently, Walmart used to sell 5qt for $19 last summer but now it's $26, and filter used to be $10.99 now $12.99. ES300 shouldn't take more than 5qt, read what your manual says and check the fluid level to top it off

Amsoil FTMFW!!! Love the stuff, it goes in gold comes out gold, and the car runs spot-on!

I'd also highly suggest using an oversized oil filter. I used to use an HP-1002 from K&N that is OEM-sized, but when I was in Mexico switched over to a larger HP-2009 that fit perfectly.

Any concern with switching from regular oil to synthetic on a 1997 with 55k miles?

Shouldn't be...mine is 5 yrs older, has 80k miles and no problems at all. One person's website shows calculations based on anecdotal stats that the probability of leakage is only around 5%, and that's for cars of all ages.
